Keeping little ones busy while you work

By Melissa Khalinsky, Business Mums Network

Working from home is a juggling act, and even more so when you have preschoolers at home. There reaches a point where preschoolers will drop their day sleep and want more of your attention.

This juggling act can often cause parents much guilt and also many questions. If you don't want to put your child in day care for part of the week, or are unable to, here are some ideas to help you get your work done.

SINGLE PARENTING

By Kathie Holmes

Despite our best intentions, many of us become single parents at some point in our lives. For some of us it is by choice, for some it is out of necessity to escape an unacceptable situation and for some it is by misfortune due to the death of a spouse.

The Power of Aloe

Emma Rhoades

What is Aloe?

Aloe Vera or Aloe barbadensis as it also known is widely regarded as one of the most beneficial healing plants in today's society. The plant is now being commercially grown with a Scientific Council (IASC) actually being set up to monitor the purity of Aloe going into today's products.

The plant itself actually comes from the tree lily family, and can also be related to the onion, garlic and turnip families. It has thick, tapered and spiny leaves from which the aloe gel can be gathered.

GREAT WAYS TO HELP OUT THE NEW MOTHER

By Lisa from www.craftymamas.net

The arrival of a new babe is one of the most beautiful and rewarding times in a woman's life, but also one of the most tiring. With families being scattered across the world as they are now, sometimes the new mother may not have access to the practical, caring support she really needs at this time. By helping out in a few small ways, a good friend can make a world of difference to mum'¢s early days when settling in with a new baby.

Breastfeed a Toddler -- Why on Earth?

By Dr Jack Newman

Because more and more women are now breastfeeding their babies, more and more are also finding that they enjoy breastfeeding enough to want to continue longer than the usual few months they initially thought they would.....

The Principles of Attachment Parenting

Principles of Attachment Parenting..

Attachment Parenting is not about a strict set of rules. It is rather a set of ideals to aim for and strive for, but not to feel a failure if these ideals arent met all the time. None of us are perfect. The main aim of AP is to listen to your baby/child's cues, and respond appropriately to their needs :)

What is a fertile period?

What is a fertile period?
by Tash Hughes of Word Constructions

Women's bodies work in cycles, and they are only able to conceive in one particular part of their cycle, and this part is called their fertile period. The exact length of a fertile period varies between women, and even for one woman at different times in her life.

Going to ABA Meetings

By Melissa Khalinsky

Since my first son, Nathaniel, was born, I felt very isolated. None of my friends had small children; they either hadnt started their families yet, or their kids were at school. And with an unsettled baby due to silent reflux (undiagnosed until 3 months old), I was going crazy being at home all day.

Antibiotic Resistance

Antibiotic Resistance By Tash Hughes of Word Constructions

When antibiotics were first identified as being effective, they were widely used even when there was no obvious bacterial infection present. Penicillin and all antibiotics were called wonder drugs, and Doctors and patients alike considered them appropriate for just about everything

There are two major drawbacks to this practice. Firstly, the impact of so many antibiotics was to reduce the natural bacteria colonies inside people's bodies which reduced their natural resistance to further infection; of course, this meant they "needed" more antibiotics.

The other drawback has become a major concern and has resulted in a much more restricted use of antibiotics by doctors and hospitals.

What's wrong with using so many antibiotics?

HOW DO PREGNANCY TESTS WORK?

by Tash Hughes of Word Constructions

Most women know that a pregnancy test requires a urine sample, preferably first thing in the morning. They know that a colour change or new line appearing (depending on the test brand) will mean pregnancy, either wanted or not. But how do these tests work?

Beta Human Chorionic Gonadotropin Hormone, b-HCG, B-HCG or even HCG, is released by a woman's body upon implantation of a fertilized embryo. This occurs approximately eight days after fertilization.
